The first open-air ethnographical museum of the country was opened to the public in our town in 1968. The group of 40 buildings, transported to the spot from 22 settlements of Zala region, got place around the backwater of River Zala, which cuts across the town. The builders have reconstructed a "Göcsej" village of the last century on the land of the outdoor museum, where the visitors can get acquainted with the things of daily use of the region, too. The exhibition entitled "Traditional Costumes of Carpathian Basin on Dolls" is on the first floor of the Museum's host building.

From 27 March to 30 April Tue-Sun: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
From 1 May to 31 August Tue-Sun: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
From 1 September to 31 October Tue-Sun: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Closed between 1 November and 26 March.

Finno-Ugric Ethnographical Park

A Finno-Ugric Ethnographical Park was built next to the open-air museum where, among others, we can get inspection of life style of Finno-Ugric peoples through Finnish, Khanty and Mansiysk households.

It can be visited with the ticket of the Village Museum of Göcsej.
Museum of Hungarian Oil Industry

The Museum of Oil Industry, the only one in the country, is next to the Village Museum of Göcsej. The spectacular derricks, steam engines, beams and pieces of memorable catastrophes of Hungarian hydrocarbon mining are parts of the exhibition. Besides the periodic shows, collections of minerals and rocks, a statue park, tools of water mining are on view, too.

The legacy of the sculptor Zsigmond Kisfaludi Strobl, from Zala, had found home in the museum, it came to the town in accordance with the creator's last request. Portraits of Elizabeth II and G.B Shaw are on view among the other exhibited statues.
The permanent exhibition about the county's history, entitled "Centres along Zala", is on the first floor of the museum, which guides the visitors through the history of Salla (Zalalövő) of the Roman times, the medieval Mosaburg (Zalavár), and Zalaegerszeg.

Virtual Museum of Radio
Mr Sandor Selyem Tóth started to collect radios and related bibliography in 1995. His collection consists of 500, mainly valve sets and 200 pieces of transistor radios in present days. Unfortunately to place the radios in a museum has not solved yet, but visitors can found information about 350 radios on the homepage.
